Storytime with Mr. Banana
Mrs. Shear has been in the hospital most of this week... trumping out Jonathan's usual Tuesday visit, my Thursday visit, etc. I've been running around like headless poultry otherwise, so my first chance to get in to see her came late this evening after Cookie Sales & an impromptu dinner/unwind with Mom & Colin.
After trying to follow the wall signs towards her known room number I had to flag a nurse down to be guided (those signs are more confusing than a labyrinth of hotel rooms) the rest of the way. I found Michael outside the room. He pointed me to the door and happily informed me that I had to don a gown & gloves before going in. I fumbled my way through the process, surely of amusement to Michael, and headed into the room.

The room was bustling with movement... two nurses taking vitals and arranging things, and there was Jonathan sitting, quietly, among the bustle. Little did I know he'd just barely arrived himself. Somehow I weaseled my way into hearing him read *sigh* I heard something about, "A small fee..." so we'll see!
There's something wonderfully calming & refreshing about hearing a soft voice read great words. His range of voices, accents, and animation often astounds me. While the smooth, subtle gentleness leaves me all relaxed and melty. I could've fallen asleep right then & there (were it not for the awkward chair arrangement!) or listened to him all night.
Truly a privilege.
I'm hoping Cookie Sales don't leave me a wiped as it did last weekend. We shall see. I would like to make it back to see Mrs. Shear again... how & when, I'm not quite sure. But I'll do what I can!
