If anything could make my mind spin anymore, it would be the thought of raising children in this evolutionary day & age. In mere discussion, Beth & I were recently debating how that might look, where we would draw lines, and how that juxtaposes with our very own upbringings.
Mind you, times... they are a changin'! the whole internet world brings everything to a new level of sad opportunities for unnecessary behavior, scary peoples, and more. Now, we are both big internet advocates, noting it's many pros despite the nagging faults. Yet, at the same time, we are also big on the accountability/involvement factor!
So I decided I would have no qualms installing/utilizing a tracking software (such as SpectorSoft) on any computer in my household. Especially as children grow into more private, developing, pubescent teens! The best option would be to keep the comps in public/shared areas. Although I know that as technology advances, it may very well be "normal" for everyone to have thier own little laptop to digitize their world.
Factoring in the creativity I hope to instill in my children, I pray they can whole-heartedly dive into blogging, podcasting, video creating, editting, & all that should they so choose. But I will be looking to the aide of tracking software as a buffer (sort of like a security camera in a store... checking it randomly, and/or when suspiscion leads!) Mostly concerned about bouts of pornography, unwanted emails, and any other concerning behaviors. I guess my thought is: with everyone being on the same page/knowing what the rules & expectations are, privacy isn't being invaded. My motto has always been, don't go anywhere [online] you wouldn't want your little sister or your grandma to see [you go].
