Cascade Locks says it's set to handle supremacist concert Friday, August 19, 2005 Officials with the Port of Cascade Locks say they are prepared to deal with any problems that might arise with a concert Saturday sponsored by a white supremacist group.The port discovered this week that it had inadvertently booked its popular Marine Park on the Columbia River to a group called Afrikaner Charities.
The group told the port that the concert would raise money for poor farmers in South Africa, said port manager Chuck Daughtry. "What we didn't know is that it supported only poor white farmers," he said.
Daughtry said the port is moving the concert to a more secluded "and more secure" industrial park on the fringe of the city. The group indicated the concert would draw about 200 people. "We will have a heavy police presence in the area," he said.
Daughtry said he plans to discuss the concert with Randal Krager, who he said organized the concert. Krager is affiliated with the Portland-based Volksfront white supremacist group. The organization's Web site said the event is called "Aryanfest 2005."
Efforts by The Oregonian to reach Krager and other Volksfront members were unsuccessful. The group's Web site says that "no illegal conduct" or weapons will be allowed. -- Richard L. Hill
