I'm glad to see someone else had the same sense of mixed feelings about this flick as I did. I watched it early morning the 7th (after midnight), just after a somewhat disturbing moment of introspection. So you can imagine where my mind was...
However, I went into it with an open mind, and prepared for the worse. Perhaps that is exactly why I was so pleasantly surprised, not to mention impressed! Never in my life would I have imagined that a Farrelly Bros. movie could bring me to sincere tears. Not laughing so hard I'm peeing my pants tears, not even crying because I'm offended/hurt tears, but sincere "I'm moved/touched" tears!
I specifically watched it alone, at home, and without previously mentioning it to anyone. I didn't want to hear people laughing where I wasn't, gasping where I wasn't, or even maybe where I was. Nor was I interested in pre-judging it through someone else's eyes.
All this allowed me to make my own determinations of the movie. Those being:
- I most likely won't watch it again, which doesn't necessarily mean I didn't appreciate watching it.
- I wouldn't recomend watching it if you are male. There is way too much scantily claddness of the female counter parts involved.
- The movie was handled very well. I was not offended in any way shape or form (as someone being overweight!) In fact, in watching deleted scenes with commentary, they specifically held themselves back/cut stuff out to keep up with the integrity of the film (they recognized scenes that were too harsh/overboard!)
- Gwyneth Paltrow is slowly but surely digging herself out of the wretched hole she jumped into in Shakespeare In Love. She played the part just wonderfully (especially coming from a stick girl!)
So really, that's all I can say. That's my $0.02 worth (someone know how to make an actual cents mark?)
