.rod Laver

Wow! What an evening!

To kick it off I got to spend some mass quality time talking with both Torsten (my fave Rock For Life hoody totin' friend) and Jason Brown. It's so awesome to hear where God's taking them and what's on their hearts... Plus Pablo was there (oh yeah, for those of you out of the loop... he's [my youngest cousin from Argentina] staying with my dad "on exchange") enjoying some music a bit different than what he's used to hanging around!
As Torsten has always assured us since "the Creation sighting," .rod Laver rocked the house... There may have been a small crowd, but as Ryan affirmed, "It's quality, not quantity!" [side note (leave it to me to go off on an inexplicable tangent:) the Quote O' the Day... has escaped me. No really... Ryan said something super funny/quotable about them being in a band and being broken (were they to ski or snowboard) and that it was a bad idea... ok so being there made it way more cohesive... I'm shutting up now and returning to our regularly scheduled blogging!] To make it way more fun I was all jumping and dancing and stuff... the few who remained went all out and enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
Ok, so the culmination of the night was clearly the story worthy part. Mike (of nothing events) put me inn charge of leading the band to the hotel. Me, all stoked to drive in the snow and spend more time with the band, I was all over the job. I quickly dropped Pablo off at dad's and went back to play tour guide. Everything got packed in the van, and we were on our way. The guys were clearly not as suavé driving in the snow as myself. What could I expect? They're from Cali. So I tried to stay as slow as I could... we finally got downtown, I frantically showed them the Bagel Shop (their brunch destination for tomorrow) and we were on the last stretch. I took the corner towards Tum-A-Lum and the China Gorge [I still wanna call it the Sundowner,] and as I went over the Hood River... I completely lost view of the van... however what I saw in my rear view mirror almost gave me a heart attack!

to be continued...

No, I can't do that to you guys... I'm way too much of a softy, plus I'm dying to tell you guys!

So, I look in my rear view... nearly have a heart attack... why? you ask. Well, you see... what I saw were flashing lights. Police car flashing lights to be more specific. .rod Laver had gotten pulled over by podunk Hood River policemen. I whipped my little Subaru around at the China Gorge and drive back to them. I was praying the whole time that It would be a cop I knew and/or recognized... hoping to use my connections in their favor. Lucky me (what am I saying lucky? It was so God,) it was Erin Mason. I rolled down my window, "Hey Erin, what's up?" (okay my verbatim this evening is off... I don't know what's wrong with me.) I then explained they were with me... I was going to pull around and wait for them, etc. I pulled around, parked behind the police car and got out. I asked the guys what he said had happened... Apparently they "failed to signal" at that last turn. Meanwhile I'm trying desperately to remember if I had signaled... or if you even have to signal there (for those of you not in Hood River... it's a quirky intersection!) So I walked back to Erin... asked him if he even remembered who I was... he claimed that he did, made some small town talk, then went back to his business. I then took it upon myself to pace and pray in the spirit... Praise God they didn't get a ticket! Woo Hoo!
By the time we made the short journey to the hotel... the band was clearly exhausted. Much to my dismay, the receptionist was on the phone for an outrageously extensive amount of time before I finally got so indignant I knocked on the counter... which made her even more upset than I, coming out saying "you can hear that I'm on the phone, you'll have to wait." Anyone who knows me and how I feel about customer service issues ought to understand... All I expected was an acknowledgement, rather than being seemingly ignored for much longer than it took to actually register. We worked out the rooms... and I was on my way home sweet home.
