25/I/00 - taboo tactics

| Last night was so much fun! Ed and I arrived at mom's with enough time to chat, and he even helped set the table for dinner. We had Coconut Golonga Chicken soup with Shrimp Toast to start out with. Then it was on to Crispy Parcels (a.k.a. "Crispy Bundles"), Spicy Beef Salad, and Marinated Ground Chicken Patties. All this yummy food was accompanied by Lime-Aid, and followed by a scrumptious dessert. Ed had his Happy Family Supreme Safeway Combo of General Tsao's Chicken, Seasame Seed Beef, and Chow Mein. He also ate some Crispy Bundles (see, I can never remember that it's supposed to be "Parcels") that he stole from Canela's stash of just chicken ones (the rest are filled with a mixed veggie type thing). Lee was quite impressed with his chopstick skills, I told you he was talented! |
Just before dinner Lee (I'm still not sure if I'm spelling it right!) made the best comment I've heard in a long time. With these simple words she was welcomed to our family. Full grin in place she told my grandfather, "Eventually you will learn that I am always right!" Earning the respect of all the other women present, she fits in well with us, as we too are always right! Slowly but surely the men must succumb to that simple fact... for their own good, they usually do!
For dessert there was a German Chocolate cake for Colin's belated birthday (it was Saturday). Since I'm not a super cake fan, not to mention my distaste of chocolate, I brought some Hagen Dazs with me. I was dying to try the new Cinnamon, and ran into their Bailey's Irish Cream in the process... so I got them both. With a strong cup of joe, I was good to go.
After dessert was when we broke out the game. Ed even went so far as to clear off and wipe down the table after dinner, all in efforts to play a game with everyone! After much debate as to what game we would play, we settled on Taboo. What a riot, I haven't laughed so hard in a while... it's great for the soul. At first we couldn't decide how to break up our seven person gathering into teams. Girls against guys? No, Ed wasn't going to have anything to do with that. Mom thought it was because of Colin and Grandpa, but it was because of Nela and I. "I don't trust Amancay and Canela together!" he exclaimed.
"Unless you're on our team!" I answered. He nodded readily, and it was decided: kids vs. adults. Obviously, we overtook the fogies by a land slide (sorry guys!), no thanks to Ed. It was so funny, he kept giving them more points then he'd get us in a turn. It was hysterical! We rocked the mic like a vandal!
At one point in the game my grandfather was trying to get his team to guess fried chicken. In his efforts he said matter-of-factly, "It's a two-legged bird"
As he continued to think of what else to say, Lee interjected amusingly, "All bird have two legs!"
That comment got us all in an uproar, we had to lay down the timer and just laugh! Come to find out, meanwhile my mother had been thinking, 'What birds don't have two legs?'
