24/I/00 - trophy bearing
Saturday night we had the Rock and Roll Legends show on our hands, so we were quite busy. Between constant changes in the amount of tickets Heidi needed, parents bailing, and giving people rides, I was exhausted from the get go. Friday I had already had to deal with trying to resell Canela and MD's tickets to Heidi. MD was still grounded (as were the majority of Canela's friends) so he couldn't come. Nela didn't want to go and sit by herself, so we had to upgrade her ticket so she could sit with me. I figured Heidi and James might be interested in coming so I called her up. Turns out she wanted three tickets (I only had two and money had already been turned in to Steighner. Not only all that, but Saturday morning she called again saying they may even want another seat.
In the end, our parents didn't get back from Portland. So they called Heidi and offered her their tickets. Well, needless to say, that was not helpful... since we had already paid for all of the tickets and this just left us with more tickets left over. Luckily, I was able to get money for them at the door.
Unfortunately for me, that wasn't the end of my mishaps. Ed and I had discussed him saving me a seat, and using his camera to take pictures of the show. As soon as I walked into the building, I had people left and right telling me that he'd left his jacket, on the balcony, in my seat, etc. I just had to laugh, he did such a great job covering all the bases... just one little problem arose, that neither of us could forsee. His mother sat there.

By the time Heidi got there, I gave her the tickets, etc, the place was packed. Boy was I glad we had our seats saved. As we got upstairs, I saw that Karen was sitting where he had left his stuff. All around her was taken. "Karen, would you mind moving over here?" I asked pointing to a seemingly empty seat across the aisle, "I have my sister with me."
"Oh!" she exclaimed, "I thought these were for me!"
Trying desperately to be tactful I answered, "Actually they are for me, I asked him to save us a spot" Trying to make it seem understandable, I mention the camera (i.e. taking pictures...) In all truth, and retrospect. I most likely was getting an inner thrill form the whole ordeal in that Ed had put an excellent effort towards something for me, and she was seeing (and tasting, however bitter it might have tasted to her) that fruit. I was subconsciously sporting my "He did it for me" trophy. Sure, I had a real hard time trying to knock her disgruntled face as she snipped out an "Okay!" and huffed off to another seat. But, at the same time... it's been awhile since I've felt like she even believed I counted in his book.
As baffling as the situation was, I had Canela go talk to Ed just to be sure. Turns out last he knew, she wasn't even sure if she was going to show. So, no: the seats were for us.
 Retouching on the "look what I've got" issue, last night I did it again. We had planned dinner at Spooky's with Billy and Shelley's family, my mom's family, and grandpa and his... shall we say fiancée!?! In the afternoon Ed was no where to be found. Just as I was about to give up (and had ground my teeth to almost nothing) he got home. His mother had made him go to Portland with her (in other words, he was exhausted and just wanted to sleep). Out of selfishness I insisted he come anyways, saying he could sleep on the way and back again. He finally agreed (who can beat my insistance?) and came begrudgingly. I don't know why I insisted so, but I did. I have this ego thing with being able to show him off. Somehow I find myself more enticing if I can convince others that I am important and special to someone else. Somehow in my wierd scheme of things, his freindship declares my worth. That's not right, but my mind veers straight towards that mode without my even noticing until it's too late. It's alomst second nature to me to want to "show off" my friends... making sure everyone knows that I'm cool enough to have this person as a friend. Just goes to show how truely pathetic I can make myself out to be.
Speaking of trophies, yesterday I stopped by to visit Sara. I hadn't talked to her in a while, and boy did she have news: she snagged herself a big one! Yep, she caught a mighty fish! Mr. Scott (that's his first name, not last) from Washington for now. I guess he walked in to get coffee one day... and they've been e-mailing ever since. She's become a computer junkie! (Woo Hoo! One more to the clan!) He had come up to visit her this weekend, and she was just estatic. I'm so happy for her, that is just awesome! He also seems to be this amazing guy anyway, full of life and umph, and all that good stuff!
Tonight should be fun. We're having dinner at my mom's. It'll be me, Ed, Mom, Colin, Nela, grandpa, and Lee [I'm not sure how she spells it: "Lee" or "Leigh", or maybe i'm just a dork, and making it more difficult than I need to]. Mom's making all the kinds of Thai food that Ed doesn't like: shrimp, seafood, coconut soup... etc. He's fine with that, because that means he gets Slave-way Chinese food, what more could a guy ask for? It should be a nice evening. Lee is a lovely lady, really kind and gentle, a definite grandma type (she ought to be, she's got ten grandchildren of her own). I was pleasantly impressed as she was able to greet each and everyone of us with our names and a tiny tid bit about us. She even knew about Ed being in the play a while back that grandpa went to watch (although she was a bit worried maybe she'd stuck her foot in her mouth... maybe that was another guy...! it was a funny moment, maybe you had to be there!)
