5/XII/99 - most happy fella

vine of seperation

I had every intention of writing up some good stuff about the play. Especially noting how well it went... with specific moments and everything. However, I got wonderfully interupted by an invite to play RCT with Ed. Now who could pass that up!? I promise I will finish this later!

vine of seperation

Continuing as promised...<
So the high school musical opened on Friday. Despite the fact that Leslie and Brian were quite hoarse, they pulled it off quite well. With only a few noticeable errors (maybe even just noticeable to nit-pickers such as myself), the whole play was very enteraining. I especially enjoyed hearing the reactions of the students sitting around me as they watched. Even before they show, I got some excitement as many of them were just realizing that Ed is actually in the musical this time, rather than doing lights.
Saturday my parents and my grandpa came to see Ed strut his stuff. The first act dragged on slowly... but they got themselves together and pulled it up for the rest of the show. Oddly enough, the second night had more actual errors in it (when they tied Adam up and by the end of the song with Sarah the rope had completely unwound from around him; poor Brian getting dropped as they carried him up the stairs; major mic noise during Rudy's Special Delivery solo; etc.) but over all it was a better performance. The audience was thrilled with it. There were some gret tid-bits that really helped it along. Mr. Bassham in Standin' on the Corner was hilarious. Brian turning the wheelchair was a small but powerful gesture. The cooks went spontaneous and truely kicked it up a notch! Sarah and Adam had more convincing interaction, I loved her longing look at him as he pushed her off stage on the pasting cart.
After all the downplay I got about the musical long ago, this is really coming together. I'm really enjoying it thoroughly. The songs are going over and over in my head. All day I kept bothering my mom singing "A great big italian..." She was going nuts as I repeated it over and over. I couldn't get it out of my head!
