29/XI/99 - meddling mom

Yicks, yikes! I had my annual exam this morning, and she had to finally do one of those kind of exams. I've been postponing it as long as possible. I'm not sexually active, nor to I plan to be in the near future. However, I am 22 years old and I probably shouldn't put it off any longer. I won't go into explicit detail, but can you say "Oh my golly gee ouch!'?
Sorry to start off like that, but it was definitely an experience! Moving on... Work is looking up! Of course after two days of absence there was sure to be some things waiting on my "expertise" (whatever!) Yet again, I have finished it all already and still have an hour and a half to go. So this is what I've decided upon doing!
Tonight is the musical's full dress rehearsal. I can't wait to actually get to see some of what they've been doing. Ed tried to convince me not to go, but then he realized it's probably the only opportunity he'll get to have me take pictures (Stig's not to big on flashes going off during actual performances, it's distracting and throws actors off... if not blinding them momentarily). So I'm happy to be his official camera woman if that means I get to be there for rehearsal (plus I get to use his camera, it's really nifty-neato!)
Speaking of the devil (only figuratively, I promise!), he's turning into quite the little angel. He became genuinely concerned when I lost it after our horrific dinner Saturday, asking constantly, "What's wrong?" "What do you want me to do?" "Amancay? Are you okay?"
In the state I was, I wasn't of much help answering him, I just mumbled some explanations and continued in my moaning. When I finally resumed some composure and went to help him get his father's Christmas present, he gave me every option to hold off saying, "We don't have to do this right now! It's okay!"<
But I insisted saying, "I want to do it now while we remember, or we'll never get it done!"<
Turns out his mom flat out lied to me yesterday on the phone. I had called around 12:20 and he was sleeping. That time she jumped at the chance to wake him up, using the excuse I was on the phone. Although an hour later, when I called back (he told me to remind him in an hour), she blatantly lied to me with him right in front of her. I asked if he was still sleeping and she said, "No he's not... he's upstairs taking a shower!"
I asked her to let him know I had called when he finished, and she said she would. Not long after that Ed showed up, I never noticed if he had showered or not. He gave me back my mouse, which was of utter importance (he had taken it the night before to clean it since it's been jumping around really bad), ate some pizza, and went back home.
Late last night, when I finally talked to him again, he asked me if he looked like he had taken a shower just before he came by. "I already knew you had taken a shower" I told him.
"How?" he asked, confused.
"I called your house!"
"But my hair was all messed up!"
"So?"
"You called and I was sitting on the couch, in front of my mom, playing Tetris, when she said I was in the shower!"
"Was she on the other line?"
"No!"
"Did she tell you it was me?"
"Not until after I got back from your house!"
"What the 'excuse my language'!"
He then said what I had wanted to say but wouldn't let myself. I guess that when he got home he asked her if that call had been for him. She said yes and gave him three guesses as to who it was. He then got pissy, worrying that I would think he doesn't want to talk to me. Since he had just been to my house and he clearly had not showered. I never noticed, but it is a possibility. Either way, there's no excuse for her to have done that, nor act like she did. How completely and utterly rude. Worst part of it all is that she will then put a pretty face towards me and act as if she has absolutely nothing against me!
Infact, when Ed and I first even started hanging out I spoke with her specifically about whether or not it bothered her, etc. I made it quite clear that the last thing I wanted to do was to go against their wishes. She posed no problems or worries, and did nothing to show me otherwise. She was constantly inviting me over and to events, we did things with his parents on many occasions (as with my own!).
For her to now start pulling this crud, that's crap. Plus, who knows how long she's been pulling it under our noses. But she's smart not to cover up everything, that would be too noticeable. So she must do it in spurts, hoping it might slide by, and somehow close the connection. I don't think so. Unfortunately it's not my place to do anything about it. If Ed is seriously bothered by this, he needs to stand up to her. He doesn't have to take that from anyone, especially not his own mother for Pete's sakes (any updates on who Pete is?).
Some people may differ in opinion, but interpersonal relationships is not where a mother (or anyone) should mettle into unless invited. Telling them not to hang out with certain people. Deciding they can't invite one friend, but another one would be fine, is irrational in my book. A parent trying to decide the social lives of their children is only looking for a bitter and resentful child. Don't even get me started on more intimate relationships... to opinionate upon them is one thing, and strongly encouraged at that. But once you've made your point clear, give it up and move on... Now standing in the way, creating barriers (unless the person poses a serious physical threat), that's just wrong!
