28/XI/99 - restaurant revenge

I was all worked up to have a nice dinner in an actual restaurant last night for my b-day. However Ed wasn't anywhere close to the mood. He had focused more on my idea of playing the game for the evening. He obviously caught on to how much I really wanted to go out, so he created enthusiasm for my first choice recomendation of The Mesquitery.
We surfed around for cheats for the game, and then were on our way. As we got to The Mesquitery there were no cars parked along the street. "Is it open?", Ed asked.
Turns out it was closed. We couldn't tell very well why, there were just some huge hand written signs in the window about the weekend. Talk about bummer. We then sat in the car and tried to brainstorm, while I tried not to cry from the frustration. Ed briefly thought about going to Andrew's to see the new Bond flick and get yummy pizza, but he didn't say anything after remembering that he's not old enough to go there after 6pm. We begrudgingly decided upon first trying to see if we could get into The Stonehedge without reservations (to top off the evening I had forgotten my phone at home), then go across the river to see if Fidel's was open.
Unfortunately they took us without a fight at The Stonehedge. Upon opening the menu (I've been there tons of times, I had just forgotten the details) I realised there was nothing that would tickle Ed's fancy. Everything is made with exotic sauces that throw him completely off. I tried to convince him of a steak, but he wasn't in the mood. However when he noticed the Pasta Myzithra, he thought he might like that, so he ordered it while I got a New York Steak.
First off, his pasta was grossly dry and I couldn't get him to take even a bite of my steak. We ate about half of our meals and went for dessert, asking to have a box to take (I pointed specifically) my steak and potato and his noodles home (I thought I could fix it with some sauce at home later). They took our plates away and come back with two baggies. After many attempts to get to the woman to show us the desserts, the man had to do it himself. We both got Cheesecake (me with rasberry pur, him with out).
The Cheesecake was seriously the only salvaging item, with the exception of the company! Yum yum, delish is all I can say! Mmmmmm, I love cheescake, and it was my one requiste for my birthday! Unfortunately the rest that came with it sucked!
After that horrid experience (spending $50 on a crapped dinner!) I was actually brought to tears later in the evening going over the whole situation. One more 'push over the edge factor' that appeared when we got home: I didn't get my yummy potato in my people's bag. Nope, they gave me the yucky eggy-pepper topped thing, and they put it directly on top of my steak, letting it soak up the sauce I had left on it! Ooooooooooh! I was quite perturbed!
Today my parents and Canela were going to a Waucoma School dinner/'no more' meeting at the Hood River Hotel. I finaggled my way into it to make up for the previous evening's experience. This night of feasting was excellent (poor service, but nothing in comparison) With no holds barred, we ate many appetizers, lush meals, exsquisite desserts, and no pockets were delved into. That's what I call an event! Malen y Cristian con un oso grandote!
I'm still slowly but surely recieving more b-day correspondance. Today Malen and Cristian sent me a note saying how much they have both appreciated my birthday calls to them (even though I never actually got to speak with Cris, I had to leave him a message on the machine!) They also sent me this picture of themselves, (I had to reduce it to make it viewable on this page)! The Rodriguez Gonzalez family has also sent me a beautiful cooperative note! I'm so glad so many of my friends in Argentina have gotten access to e-mail systems!
Snail mail has become an utter futile effort on my part. Letters get started yet never finished or sent. It's pathetic on my part, really I readily admit it. But it is also the truth. I have every intention of returning letters and the efforts of others, unfortunately I never seem to follow through appropriately. I've become really bad at that end of communication lately. I used to write at least one extensive letter a day. Now I blame it on busy-ness, knowing full well I'm just as busy as I have ever been, just lazier then ever before!
